A huge thank you to the preschool that my Mom teaches at "Creative Learning Center", and the families of this school who worked together to collect many schools supplies and soccer equipment for me to take with me. The little ones that we will be working with at the community center are going to love their new shoes, and clothes!
Thank you again for your generosity!

A New Adventure
| Lalitpur, Nepal 2011 |
Hello friends and family,
It is that time of year again where I take off on another one of my crazy adventures. I guess Africa and Nepal just weren't enough, because this May I am leading a volunteer team of my own to Sao Paulo, Brazil. This trip is unique and different than my past Global trips that I have been on because the cities that I will be visiting are booming and filled with millions of people. The distribution of wealth in Brazil is huge, and it is those that rest on the bottom end of the scale that we will be focusing our time on.
In Brazil, youth grow up seeing the most influential and powerful people being leaders of the drug war. Because of this, many children at incredibly young ages turn to drugs, drop out of school, and risk their lives every single day hoping that some day they may be as wealthy and powerful as the drug lords. Our goal is to provide programs that encourage children to attend school, and provide incentives for youth if they attend their classes on a regular basis.
The second half of our journey will take us to Franchesco Mordado which is a smaller satellite city just outside of Sao Paulo. There we will be staying at a community centre and working closely with the women and children who rely on this place as a home and a shelter. We will be teaching english and running soccer camps to help encourage children to attend school. The rule is that you can only come play soccer with us, if you have attended school that day. Running soccer camps for kids who have been playing the sport all of their lives will be interesting, and I am sure that they will be teaching me a whole lot me than I will be able to offer them.
I will be taking a team of seven other university students with me. We are excited to take part in building projects, including finishing a soccer field that has been in the works for severe years now.
I have been fortunate enough to have been teaching at an amazing elementary school for the past four months. The families of this school have donated soccer jerseys, shoes and equipment for me to take with me, as well as 3 huge suit cases full of school supplies. I am so excited to be able to bring all of these things with me, and see the faces that light up when they are given something brand new to them.
Keep us in your prayers
Love you and talk to you soon
